Current Volunteer Opportunities


Short-term Volunteers

Short-term volunteers such as service learning, contribution hours, community engagement etc. please call us at (507) 345-7477 or email us at echofoodshelf@yahoo.com to schedule volunteer hours.


Simple Reminders:

  • Please provide you full name or your school email address when signing up online so that we can enter your name into our database.
  • If you you can't remember your shift time, go back to the schedule and look for your name before calling ECHO staff.
  • If you are driving, please park in our parking lot.
  • Come in through the back door that is located near the two garage doors as the front door is not opened until 12:30pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday and until 10:30am on Thursday.
  • Make sure to sign in, put on a name tag and be prepared to work.
  • Duties may vary according to current needs.
  • You are expected at your scheduled time.  You may sign in up to 30 minutes before your shift.  If you will be late due to a class or bus, please leave a comment behind when you sign up for hours.  Please delete your name from SignUpGenius before 9:00am on the day you are scheduled to work if there is an issue with the hours, unable to make it in for your scheduled time or will be running late.  Please do not call or email us to remove your name from SignUpGenius.

  • Please read these guidelines. All students and community service volunteers will be required to sign a copy prior to signing in the first time.

Possible Volunteer positions

Weekday Mornings

Around 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon

Food Rescue   Driver picks up food rescue at a local grocery store or restaurant and delivers to food shelf. You may opt for a regular weekly pick up and/or be on our call list to fill in.

Receiving    Volunteers unload, sort, and stock food rescue and donations.


Weekday afternoons (with extended hours on Thursday)

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Friday 12:15 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Thursdays anytime between 10:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Shopper   Assist clients in selecting their food orders.

Stocker   Keep shelves stocked, assist with receiving, sorting, and stocking donations.

Produce   Keep produce stocked. Cull out old or damaged produce

Freezer   Assist clients choosing meat and other frozen food from the upright freezer.

“Bridge to Benefits”   Use a screening tool to help clients find other programs they may be eligible for. This position would be combined with Shopper or Stocker

Summer Feeding Program    (June through August) Help us fill the summer meal gap by helping out in our mini food shelf for school age children and teens. Duties include client intake and assistance as well as keeping shelves stocked.



Weekdays between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Composting and Recycling   Help us do our part for the environment by sorting our compost and recycling. Hours are flexible. Work alone or bring a friend.

May be asked to supervise small groups (optional).

Warehouse   Move boxes and pallets of dry goods and frozen food. Involves heavy lifting.

May be asked to supervise small groups (optional).

ECHO Delivers   Select and deliver food once a month for a client who is homebound or lacks transportation.
